Oracle SQL Developer Default Language

Oracle SQL Developer does not allow you to change the default language on the GUI. No idea why, but that is a given.

To solve this issue, go to your installation folder, and then to the \ide\bin folder, e.g.: C:\oracle\Product\sqldeveloper\ide\bin

In this folder, make sure to edit the file file ide.conf with a good editor like Notepad++ and add the following line in the end:

AddVMOption -Duser.language=en

The next time you start SQL Developer, your menus should be in English!

Search-Replace in Word Made Easier

Most of us know how to do a search-replace in Word (OK, those who don’t know it could try CTRL+H for starters). It is quite easy to use in most cases.

But what if you would like to replace a double paragraph break with a single one? Or an En dash (–) with an Em dash (—)?

For these scenarios, Microsoft published a Technet article called 20 Helpful Search Strings for Finding Special Characters in Word. This should make cleaning up documents and replacing special characters much easier.
